Self Care


Today I sat in a focus group at the hospital on woman's health needs. It was a diverse crowd of woman with many backgrounds and focuses. It is a mountain that we all were attempting to climb but woman are good at these things. To start is what is amazing, the only way we could achieve bringing together so many areas and ideas to truly support woman in health.

Man or woman, the deal to live in health, happiness, joy and look good is self care. There is no way around it and there is no greater solution. Who is going to be able to know your needs, when you are hungry, tired, need to go have fun or just be quiet? We look for pills, potions and solutions and it is simply about caring for yourself as you would for others.

Most don't even know what self care is or the right self care. It is about getting into relaxation and anything can work as we are all individuals. It is taking 5 throughout your day. If in stress, find a way to breathe to calm, relax, reset. Very simple but yet no one does it. In the turmoil of my life, I have gotten very good at doing it daily, sometimes hourly, weekly and certainly monthly. It is a practice of awareness. You see you are stressed, hyped up, whacked out and you find a way. anything to get you back in chill and move forward centered.

You keep doing it moment to moment, as soon as you notice, you find something to relax you back to center. I call it self care and it takes awareness of your body states. Know what anger, stress, strife and rush make you feel like energy wise, in your body, not just in the head and thoughts. You need to know how it feels in relaxation in the body.  Then you start finding ways to get your body back to that feeling. All kinds of things work and it is an ongoing daily, momentary practice. The good news is, once you start doing it consciously, your body begins to take over and do it naturally.

That is why I educate and promote the healing and expressive arts. Movement in smooth gentle ways will calm you down. Healing touch on any level will center and relax you in oxytocin. It is all about finding ways to be in oxytocin, the parasympathetic nervous system which is the rejuvenator of your body.

Nature does it, sitting down, getting a hug, playing, just chilling in the beness of a situation. Watching the birds out the window, chattering with friends, even being still like meditation or passive like reading a book. A good nights sleep,  a bath, a delicious dessert or some giggles. Any thing artistic or creative will do it too. An inspiring quote or words. These all bring calm healing and that is all self care is.

Simply relax, calm down, chill out and become healthy, beautiful, wise and joyously happy. Find your ways to do this big and small. It is the greatest healer there is and you won't need much else for you body will support you to move about this way in the world.It become a magic glide through things. Certainly worth trying!
