The Health of Hanging Out

I am in Colorado with my daughter for a week. Normally our schedule is filled with adventure of mountain play in such a beautiful place. Activity rules usually if you are on vacation, especially where skiing and hiking is the pleasure. However, the snow is absent this season so far, only one run open. We had our feast of Thanksgiving and decided to consider our time together as a healing retreat rather than filled with action of adventure.

They say all is perfect, so we took the limited winter scene as our indication to rest and fill our beings. We have lazily watched movies, done facials, surfed utube videos on palette knife painting, hit the art store to get unusual art tools and investigated great ski wear via the Internet. We will water color paint this afternoon to play in creativity. We are doing the chill activities that nourish our souls, spirits and hearts.  It is not our general way but this moment it seems what is here.

We will hike and adventure the next two days, for we are girls of the outdoors. But for this trip we are taking it light and healing as a retreat, a flow of rest and nourishment in a different form. It feels good to wake up and not have to rush out the door to the next thing. Hanging in our jams, sipping coffee, lazily moving along, making it up as we go. It feels joyous, restful and rejuvenating. Often we don't get this time in our life. We are open to what feels good to do rather than rushing to get in all that we can. A definite mindset shift for the adventure girls!!!

Often when we do this type of thing, our mind, expectations, ideas of what we should be doing takes over. I am in Colorado in the midst of incredible mountains and all kinds of adventure. Yet hanging in the foothills, peaceful in the yard looking at them is quiet beauty. Being in the stature of such mountains, partaking of it in a passive way is just as delicious on this visit. We are filling ourselves on levels other than action.

Three quarters of our life is supposed to be spent in leisure and renewal for the healthiest of life. When relaxing we are rejuvenating, refreshing our bodies, allowing it to rebuild itself for vitality. We all miss this wisdom, often why health a challenge. We are doing over being. I am thankful for this week long respite with my girl. We didn't plan it this way yet our souls seem most nourished this time by hanging out. Greatful to realize it is perfect, the conditions of the weather and our bodies are calling for it. We, wise enough to cooperate, enthused for the blessing.

Take time over the holidays, really anytime of the year for chill. It is what the weekends are to represent as we work, then we rest. It is the cycle of timing best for our bodies. Don't let the mind fool you that it isn't being productive for it truly is what our bodies, minds, emotions and spirit needs. Creativity can unfold which is a great life elixir! No schedule, an open canvas of a day, we all desire this so do it for yourself. Make time for the healing of hanging out!
