"The Lotus Project" was coined by my dear, inspiring friend Terree Yeagle. If you know her, you know she has a way with words. One year, as the white lotus was blooming, we had gathered together to create an idea. I was sharing the beauty of the pond and the incredible blooms of the lotus. We were heading to lunch to discuss a big plan of an event space we were thinking to create together using our specialties in collaboration. As we drove to our destination, she asked what the lotus represented. I told her in eastern literature it meant an awakening. This most beautiful flower grows in the muck of a pond. From the dark slimy basin of a pond, cresting through the water, up to the surface comes this large magical flower that smells exquisite and is considered the Queen of flowers. The feminine spirit of life, of beauty and unfolding is its message. From muck and mire this incredible beauty arises symbolizing the flowering of life. Terree's called our collaboration the Lotus Project. And there it began.
As life moved forward we did get this flower captured by her photographically and began another venture the was challenged during these economic times. We used lotus prints on all kinds of home and fashion decor. A project that lacked funds to survive. We created lovely things that just didn't get to market. We collaborated with two others, Sandy and Beth. As the times where shifting we all had to head in different directions.
Next I decided to teach and host classes here and it seemed the perfect words to describe education about empowerment. Blooming while in the beauty of a flower farm. The white lotuses in the pond reminding us of this great awakening. We offer classes in blooming so to speak: yoga, femininity, nutrition, art, drum circles, nature celebrations, music performances, the Lotus Project. Being represented by the Lotuses grown here, captured and put forth into the world.
Then came my book. A collection of thinking's I have learned through life about blooming into myself. It deemed a wonderful title that a publisher thought worked better than my original title. So the book took on that name! The Lotus Project. The concept that came about so long ago in a wonderful car ride with a charming witty friend. I must pay tribute to Terree Yeagle and all the gifts she has bestowed in my life. A whole adventure has become of this project, beyond our day together. I love these wonderful words and live them as I grow. We all do. We are all a lotus project becoming ourselves. Working our way through the muck and mire, growing tall and about it, flowering our gifts! Thank you dear Terree for giving us the words!
