The Year of The Yow Water Dragon

Cynthia, an associate in Hawaii. explained the Chinese New Year to us. I thought I would share the thinking for those whom wanted to understand the world through the ancient Chinese celebration. Feng Shui comes from the Chinese system so they predict things by the energies found in certain directions, they try to balance the 4 elements in a space to harmonize it. They believe these effect you, they notice and base decisions on them. Water symbolizes flow and money, so it is a year of flow and the West has the blessings star of money, so recovering is predicted in the West.

Before the New Year which begins on the 23rd of January, they spring clean their homes in an effort to clean and clear the chi, life force in their spaces. This represents an internal clearing and cleaning of their minds and life, allowing for new energy to come into their spaces, minds and life. This way they make room for health, wealth and harmonious relationships that effects their whole year.

The final thing that seemed intriguing is how they celebrate. They give away red money packets to friends and family to symbolize the inner abundance they have and the williness to share it with all. They believe this activates money energy and blessings for the whole year. Sounds like a good way to begin the New Year!
